LATEST NEWS / UPDATES:

*** PLEASE HELP ***
The time has come where I can no longer feed dogs on the reserve alone, so i need a volunteer to carry the food. Because of wrist and hand injuries, I desperately need one or more responsible volunteers who are available to devote a whole day (8 hours) on a weekly basis to help me care for dogs. It is a workout, as we need to get in and out of the car many, many times and walk short distances on uneven ground, to the dishes. Robin.

Ready for Adoption:

PLEASE NOTE: Robin is on holidays from July 5th through July 25, and will answer your emails and applications when she returns. Thanks!

Puppy "LEILA"- seen here at left, took a week to not be frightened, but now walks nicely on leash. Jusmps up beside you when excited. Will nip at a dangling hand, so should not be placed with young kids. She needs a home with another dog, as she is most secure around dogs; she has definitely been abused; needs an understanding family. She (understandably) has trust & fear issues and can't be left alone right now. However, she is very smart, and is improving daily.

VASSA LILY, a 9-12 month old Golden Lab (we think) Cross has a very sweet personality. She is very gentle, enjoys being where you are, and sits quietly in the car. Lily notices things most dogs don’t. When she watches TV, and hears a dog she quietly moves closer to the TV to watch and listen. When someone is writing, she watches intently, cocking her head. When she hears phone messages she comes close, and looks at the speaker. When she sees an ant, she watches until it disappears. It is a joy to watch her when she sees a butterfly!
Vassa Lily loves to wrestle with her friends, go for off leash walks, play in the water, and be in the house with us. She is learning to sit and lie down for a treat, taking it gently. She is very loving and is so gentle with toddlers, and plays well with the older children also.

Lily has had her 1st Distemper/Parvol Vaccine and is worm and disease free as far as we know. We want Lily to go to a home that appreciates her unique personality and has young children. Lily may need a gradual adoption to avoid un-due distress.

One of Many We Help

This dog was owned by an elderly lady who looked after her well. When she passed away, her son came to live in her house and look after her dog. He has not been feeding her well, so she comes to me and rolls over, hoping for a belly scratch, before she eats the food I leave for her.

           SuccessComposite

  • NEEDS -- DONATIONS TO VET FOR REVOLUTION, LOPATOL, AND DISTEMPER/PARVOL VACCINE. We need to give these within 24 hours of bringing a dog to our emergency kennel.

  • Foster Homes for stray or surrendered dogs. We are still in need of foster homes.

  • FOOD DELIVERY NEEDED: We need help during both weekends AND weekdays in delivering food to the dogs.

  • Fencing: We are also asking for donations of fencing for quarantine enclosures.

  • Containers: Clean 2 to 5 gallon pails.

  • Rubber dishes: We need one more large rubber dish. These dishes (such as in the picture) are virtually indestructable by dogs, and cut down on broken plastics laying around. The ones we use are 4" X 17" or larger and are used for livestock.

Also if you have hard plastic drums that can be cut down for community feeders or waterers these are good. We don't need small dishes.

  • Thank you for anything you can provide.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:
MARILYN -- The injured dog Muffy has been saved by Marilyn. Muffy is undergoing surgery on June 2 to have her leg amputated. Marilyn has paid for her surgery, hospital stay, medications, and her needed shots. Marilyn, we are so thankful....and overwhelmed by your generosity.

Muffy had a broken paw, but her owners couldn’t afford to take her to the vet.

I took pictures, telling the family (3 small kids) I would advertise to see if I could find people who would donate money to pay for Muffy to get treatment.

  • LYNN -- from The Laughing Dragonfly (email thelaughingdragonfly@hotmail.com), who makes her own organic soaps for dogs. She is now donating 100% of the proceeds from the dog shampoo bars to K9CAR. Each bar retails at $5.50.

  • JAN-- for her generous donation of a large rubber dish, and dish heater. We need one more of each, for the treatments that are to be given from now through to next November. If you can help, please click here to Contact Us, or email Info@k9careandrescue.org directly.

  • DONORS -- who have already made donations to the Barrhead Veterinary Clinic for K9 Care And Rescue. More help is needed in order to continue rescuing dogs in need of medical care. (Click here for information on donating to: K9CAR Vet fund.)

  • KAREN and other receptionists from the Park Veterinary Centre at Sherwood Park, who collect donated food, and other needed items, and bring them to us each month.

  • OUR FOSTER FAMILIES -- We wholeheartedly thank the wonderful volunteers who have fostered many dogs and puppies over the years, put out considerable finances for these animals, and found them homes. It is people like you that make this world a better place.
